Message From The Director, December ’21

Dear Retail Partners,

I understand that our Retail Partners’ business have been affected by the pandemic in different ways and degrees. Other than practicing the new norms to ensure everyone’s safety at the petrol station, our Retail Partners have to also put in their effort, commitment and even creativity to defend the sales and sustain the business.

With the recent development such as our country achieving herd immunity, lifting of interstate travelling ban, resuming of economic activities, ongoing booster vaccination program, border reopening, etc., we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

My fellow Retail Partners, do prepare well for the reopening and recovery. We do not need extravaganza ideas to attract customers. The key is to get the basics right – comply with the operational excellence standard set out by Chevron. Let us focus on excelling in the Customer First and Image Stewardship programs. Trust me, your customers will visit and re-visit if these two basic things are done right. As you firmed up the operational foundation, you can then have a clearer mind to strategize in recovering and developing the business.

For that, Pen Petroleum is committed to support our Retail Partners, especially in the StarCard segment. Our team aggressively drove for the StarCard program with the tagline of #4StarCardsBy2021. I am glad to see that through our Retail Team, our Retail Partners are exposed to more StarCard experience and they appreciate the advantages of StarCard now. I wish to thank Chevron’s StarCard Team for giving us the fullest support in promoting StarCard.

Last but not least, allow me to reinforce the importance of being vigilant in preventing the COVID-19 infection. I had previously shared with you the consequences which a station would suffer if a staff is detected with COVID-19 positive. It would lead to a whole station closure for days or weeks. Therefore, please regularly use the self-test kit to monitor all staff’s wellness.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a fruitful journey in year 2022. To those who will be celebrating the auspicious Chinese New Year, I wish you “Gong Xi Fa Cai”.

Jom Kibar Jalur Gemilang Bersama Caltex

In conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day 2021, Pen Petroleum and Xpress Point launched the program themed “Jom Kibar Jalur Gemilang Bersama Caltex” across our network. The Caltex stations which spearheaded this program include AA&T Resources Sdn Bhd, Adri Emas Sdn Bhd, Pen Harmoni Sdn Bhd, Yun Sinar Bahagia Enterprise, CF Service Station and Mayang Mass Trading, and we are glad to know that more and more Caltex stations are joining us in this campaign!

Under this program, the stations put up lively and attractive Jalur Gemilang inspired decorations in their mart and forecourt. Each station’s decorations are unique and creative. KUDOS to the talented Retail Partners and staffs! We trust that by creating such a patriotic ambience in our stations, we can lift up the ‘Malaysia Prihatin’ spirit amongst the local community in celebrating this meaningful month with us while battling the pandemic.

We also distributed 200 candy flags and 100 packets of wet tissue to each station for them to give away to customers. At certain sites, we also give out complimentary flags to customers who pumped at our Caltex station.

Whereas for Nur Nabilah Nizar and Adam Zikry Lizam, the ‘Super Strikas’ animated slot has attracted their interest in Caltex. They learned that Techron is an additive patented by Chevron Corporation (Caltex) and their family are loyal users of the Caltex brand.

Ng Li Fen

Ng Li Fen shared that revision by referring to the past year’s questions and focusing on online learning (PdPR) is the key to her success.

One of the challenges faced by most of them is the occurrence of internet disruptions during the ongoing PdPR. With words of encouragement and support from their parents, these five students managed to succeed in SPM 2020. “Prepare early; avoid doing last minute revision because practice makes perfect” are their messages to prospective candidates for SPM 2021.

This proves that the COVID-19 pandemic is not an obstacle to strive for excellence and their success is a source of inspiration to other students. We at Pen Petroleum wish them all the best for their future endeavours.

#4StarCardsBy2021

Message From The Director, September ’21

It is devastating to hear that 11 staff in our network have been tested positive for COVID-19 within the first half of August, mainly being infected by their next-of-kin under one roof. As required under the SOPs, the stations whom these staff work at have to be closed for thorough sanitization. Depending on the number of the respective retailers and staff undergoing quarantine, the stations’ business has to be halted for 3 to 10 days due to lack of manpower.

First and foremost, I would like to wish all the infected staff and their family a speedy recovery. Secondly, I wish to reinforce the importance of vaccination for our frontliners. Besides strict compliance with the pandemic SOPs, we urge our Retail Partners to ensure that all staff have registered for vaccination, and pursue for urgent vaccination. In the service line particularly, we have the basic responsibility to provide a safe environment for our customers. At Pen Petroleum, we launched the Jom Daftar Vaksin campaign to encourage vaccination registration by retailers and staff. For those who have registered for vaccination, we reward them with a RM5 KFC voucher as a small token of appreciation. Everybody plays a part in achieving herd immunity. So, let us do our part.

Given the alarming situation, Retail Partners are also reminded to arrange your human resources wisely, for instance, to keep your staff under 2 or 3 separate shifts to minimize the risk of bulk infection which may totally incapacitate the station operation. With the intrusion of virus variants into our community, it is advisable to take extra precautionary steps such as testing staff temperature and blood oxygen level when they check in for work. You are further encouraged to keep sufficient MOH-approved self-test kits at station for staff use from time to time. For high risk staff (such as those pending vaccination, of senior age, those who has frequent physical contact with visiting supplier, vendor, truck drivers, etc.), we even encourage them to use the test kits on a weekly basis for monitoring purposes.

In so far as the pandemic is concerned, we are flooded with overloaded information. Rumour has it that, petrol station nozzle is one of the hottest spots for COVID-19 spread. I wish to remind all retailers to always refer to the official source of information i.e. the authorities, Chevron or Pen Petroleum when doubt arises. As petrol station owners, we ought to be able to educate our staff and the public on the correct safety guidelines.

Amidst the pandemic, let us all stay connected and motivate each other to strive in the All-Stars Incentive Program 2021 launched by Chevron. I would like to applaud Chevron for designing the program in a realistic mechanism which suits the pandemic uncertainty. In the last incentive program, we had 19 stations winning including sites located on the highway and in the rural area. I believe this would inspire more stations from Pen Petroleum to work hard to win the All-Stars title this year. Should you require our guide, do reach out to our RBCs and leadership team who are always available to help.

Lastly, I would like to thank our team for continue driving the business passionately despite the obvious decline in sales. The team has launched many simple yet creative programs this few months, in collaboration with Chevron and our Xpress Point vendors. It is our hope that at this trying times, our effort helps to uplift our fellow retailer’s morale.
